Washington Capitals' Alexander Alexejev was pepper-sprayed by police and arrested, suspected of being intoxicated in a public place, reports local news site ARLnow.com.

The Russian defenseman, teammate of Swedish World Championship player Rasmus Sandin, allegedly got into a fight with another man around 3:30 am on Saturday. When police arrived at the scene, Alexejev allegedly attacked him, prompting the police to use pepper spray and arrest the 25-year-old NHL player.

Alexejev was taken to the Arlington County jail, but was released. A trial date has not been set.

"We are aware of the incident involving Alexander Alexejev and are gathering information", says a spokesperson for Washington Capitals according to Washington Post.
