Swedish Players Shine in Stanley Cup Opener Despite St Louis Loss

It became a Swedish goal fest – and Swedish disappointment – directly when the Stanley Cup playoffs got underway and Winnipeg took on St Louis. It's a different level than in the regular season, says Swedish goal scorer Oskar Sundqvist, whose team lost.

In the end of the first period, St Louis' Swedish center Oskar Sundqvist got hold of the puck in a chaotic situation in front of the opponent's goal, and could equalize to 2–2.

St Louis led for a long time and extended with another goal in the second, but in the third period, Winnipeg got going. After three goals in a short time, the home team took the win with 5–3.

The game about the Stanley Cup is something entirely different than the regular season, notes Oskar Sundqvist.

It's a tight match. It's two teams that play physically and play forward, so it really goes up and down during the games, he says to reporters after the match.

I think we need to get better at handling when they press forward.

During the night, Swedish time, Colorado and Dallas also met. Visiting Colorado rolled over the home team and won with 5–1.
