Åhman and Hellvig defeated the Brazilian pair of Adelmo Folha and Mateus Dultra in the round of 16. The match was won in straight sets (21–11, 21–12) and the home duo never came close to threatening the Swedes.
For the World Championship runners-up Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson, things were tougher. The Swedes lost in straight sets (17–21, 18–21) to the Austrian pair Philipp Waller and Moritz Pristauz-Telsnigg.
The quarterfinals will be played later on Saturday afternoon, Brazilian time. Olympic and World Championship gold medalists Åhman/Hellvig will face Elouan Chouikh and Joadel Gardoque of France.
