As skipper of Team Edin, Niklas Edin won Olympic gold in Beijing in 2022. In addition, he won eight World Cup gold medals and eight European Championship gold medals during his career.
40-year-old Edin's last World Cup gold medal was won as recently as April, after a final victory over Canada in Utah, USA. It was a nice revenge after the disappointment at the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina earlier this year, where Team Edin was the reigning champion - but didn't even make the playoffs.
"We had to prove to ourselves that we can still play curling at a high level. I think we played fantastically and we kept our cool," Edin said, according to World Curling Media.
It turned out to be a fine end to a golden career. But Niklas Edin - who also had major injury problems during his career - will not leave curling, he writes. Among other things, he will train and commentate on the sport.
