The 24-year-old Swede was forced to return home from the World Cup competitions in the USA in January with a troublesome back. Then, the World Championship was not in danger, assured Wallberg, but now it will not be a World Championship anyway.
A tendon in the shoulder, not the back, needs to be treated and he will therefore miss the World Championship next week.
It's clear that I wanted to compete in the World Championship. But I've competed injured when I've had pain before and it hasn't gone so well, says Walter Wallberg to DN.
There is also a more important competition further ahead on the horizon. In Milano Cortina next year, Wallberg wants to defend his Olympic gold from 2022.
If I can become even better during this summer and take it with me into next season, it should go well. Now that I'm skipping the World Championship, I can really focus on next season and the journey towards the Olympic Games, says Wallberg.
The Freestyle World Championship will take place in the Swiss Engadin from 18-30 March, with the mogul competitions during the championship's first four days.
