Björn Hamberg, assistant coach of the Swedish national team, takes over the coaching position at the Swedish football club Elfsborg.

Hamberg has been Graham Potter's assistant for many years, but will now take on the main responsibility at Elfsborg, the Borås club announced. The contract runs until 2029.

He replaces Oscar Hiljemark, who recently left for Serie A club Pisa.

In addition to the national team, Hamberg has also been the U18 coach for English club Brighton until now.

"I've been strongly influenced by the environments I've been in and the principles of the game that I have worked with over the last 15-20 years: a team that wants the ball, a team that wants to drive the game, a team that tries to get matches on its terms," he tells the club's website.

He will continue his national team assignment during the spring playoff matches and possible World Cup finals.
