Excluding those considered able to obtain citizenship instead, an estimated 118,700 cases remain in which permanent residence permits are to be converted into temporary residence permits.
Processing 118,700 cases will take eight years, cost a total of SEK 3.6 billion over those years, and require 336 full-time employees per year, according to the Swedish Migration Board.
Last year, government investigators presented a proposal to convert permanent residence permits into temporary ones. The parties are divided on whether the proposal should be implemented.
