S, V, C and MP want to introduce a stay law to prevent the deportation of young adults who had a residence permit as children because of family ties.
The parties also agree on which group should be covered. One requirement is that the person has a remaining family connection in Sweden and applied for a residence permit after July 20, 2021, but was rejected.
The Swedish Migration Agency’s Director General, Maria Mindhammar, received the red-green parties’ proposal immediately after a committee meeting in the Riksdag a week ago.
But a new law could take months to put in place. In the meantime, the parties hope the Migration Agency will pause new deportations.
However, no pause will be introduced at this time.
The committee must come up with something more formal than the proposal that was made, says Ulrika Karlsson.
During the previous term, the Migration Agency paused deportations when the Tidö parties announced new legislation.
However, press officer Ulrika Karlsson says the agency needs a very clear and defined mandate so that it knows exactly what to expect.
That’s what we’re waiting for, she says.
