"The September outcome shows a clear strengthening in Swedish industry, supported by a brighter global economy. Order intake rose broadly, production and order backlogs grew at a faster pace, but at the same time cost pressure increased," says Jörgen Kennemar, economist at Swedbank, in a press release.
He adds that the high and rising cost pressure poses an inflationary risk if input costs are passed on to producers and consumers.
An index reading above 50 indicates increased activity in the industry.
Swedbank's and Silf's purchasing managers' index is based on statistics on order intake, business volume, employment and delivery times from more than 200 purchasing managers in the private sector.
