A group of five skiers was heading down the northeastern slopes at an altitude of 2,850 meters when an avalanche was triggered, local media reported.
One man was swept away in the snow but was found and dug out by his companions. Rescue workers from the Swiss canton of Valais and local police responded with helicopters, but despite resuscitation attempts, he could not be saved.
