It became no US Open title for the Swedish tennis junior Lea Nilsson. The 17-year-old from Stockholm fell in the final.

There, the 14th-seeded Belgian Jeline Vendromme won with 7–6 (7–2), 6–2.

Nilsson, who qualified for the US Open, has on the way to the final beaten the American Julieta Pareja, world number one on the junior side, in the eighth and the eighth-seeded Spaniard Esquiva Banuls in the quarterfinal. She then beat the ninth-seeded Mika Stojsavljevic, Great Britain, in the semifinal.

Lea Nilsson became two years ago the youngest Swede to win a national team match – both on the men's and women's side – when she won in the Billie Jean King Cup, the women's equivalent to the Davis Cup.
