Erik Gustafsson, 32, came to Detroit last summer after eleven seasons in other teams in NHL. He gave Detroit the lead with 2–1 barely 15 minutes into the first period with a powerful slapshot.

Another Swede, teammate Jonatan Berggren, scored the winning goal to 5–4 with 36 seconds left of the third period.

The 24-year-old Berggren, with roots in Uppsala, is in his third season in Detroit. He made the decisive goal when he received a pass at the midfield line after just leaving the penalty box. Alone with Columbus goalkeeper Elvis Merzlikins, he made no mistake.

When you're sitting there in the penalty box, it's roughly what you hope for, that the chance will come. This time it went that way, says Berggren to reporters after the match.
