The Russian Tu-22M3 bombers were identified over international waters.
"It's a signal we're sending. We're showing that we've seen them," says Swedish Armed Forces communications officer Mikael Ågren to the newspaper.
The Armed Forces do not comment on exactly where the flight took place.
