White snus has been banned in France on the grounds that it can harm the health of young people in particular.
Before the ban, the Swedish government, at the urging of the Swedish Board of Trade, claimed that the ban could, on the contrary, have negative public health consequences - especially for smokers who are looking for alternatives to cigarettes.
But the Public Health Agency does not support that argument.
There is nothing in the research that shows that snus, or the now white snus, is an effective smoking cessation tool, says department head Josefin Päiviö Jonsson.
According to Ekot's review, the Swedish Board of Trade used facts from the tobacco industry. The authority states that it should have reviewed the answers more carefully.
