Assisted by compatriot Erik Karlsson, Rickard Rakell scored the first goal in the 14th minute of the match.

In the second period, the roles were reversed when Rakell assisted Karlsson, who tied the score at 2–2 with a wrist shot.

But the two men weren't done there. In the third period, they combined for another goal, with the decisive shot coming from Rakell.

After a scoreless overtime, the match was decided in a shootout, where Rakell missed his attempt. His teammates converted, securing a 4–3 victory.

Opposing team had Swedish goaltender Linus Ullmark. In addition to making 35 saves, he had an assist on Ottawa's 2–1 goal.
