The 29-year-old man, who was arrested at Vancouver Airport in January, is believed to be the leader of one of the criminal gangs in Gothenburg.
"He is suspected of being a central person within a criminal network with its main base in southern Gothenburg", writes the Prosecution Authority in a press release.
"He has been abroad for several years and is suspected of having controlled the activities in Sweden with the help of various encrypted communication services.
On Friday, the man was arrested, suspected of, among other things, aggravated drug offenses, preparation for general destruction and money laundering.
His lawyer Ulrik Smedberg tells Göteborgs-Posten that the 29-year-old denies the crimes.
