The 29-year-old man, who was arrested at Vancouver airport, is believed to be in charge of one of the criminal gangs in Gothenburg.
"He is suspected of being a central person within a criminal network with its main base in southern Gothenburg", writes the Prosecution Authority in a press release.
"He has been abroad for several years and is suspected of having controlled the operations in Sweden with the help of various encrypted communication services.
The suspicions against the man include, among other things, aggravated drug offenses, preparation for general destruction and money laundering.
The detention hearing will be held at lunchtime on Friday.
