Several Swedish licensed football agents are suspected of having close ties to organized crime. The police have therefore initiated an investigation, reports SVT News.

A shooting in Huddinge a couple of weeks ago was directed at a person with a connection to a football agent who is linked to a Swedish top player, according to media reports.

Not surprisingly, says Per Engström, head of section at the police's national operational department Noa, to SVT, even if the police do not want to comment on the individual case.

We have had other cases in Sweden where pressure has been exerted on agency operations, says Engström.

Several agents are indirectly or directly linked to the most serious criminal gangs in Sweden, according to Engström.

About 150 Swedish licensed football agents are estimated to be in Sweden. The requirement for a Fifa license for agents was introduced in 2023.

The police investigation aims to map out which of them are involved in organized crime.

It would be surprising if the investigation does not show that even top players' agents are linked to organized crime, says Per Engström to SVT.
