Swedish Films Sweep October Box Office Top Three for First Time in Eight Years

The three most-watched films in cinemas in October were Swedish. It is the first time in eight years that all three films on the podium have been Swedish, according to the Swedish Film Institute.

Behind the box-office success are Alex Schulman's debut film "Arkipelag", the youth film "Nelly Rapp - the gate to the underworld" and the dramatic comedy "Resan till Piemonte", starring Helena Bergström, Kjell Bergqvist and Jonas Karlsson.

All three films, as well as "Lilla spöket Laban busar vidare", drew more than 30,000 cinema-goers in October - high figures for Swedish films.

The surge in audiences is long-awaited for Swedish films after a tough year. The number of cinema visits to Swedish films was halved, from around 2.3 million in 2024 to around 1.1 million in 2025, according to statistics from the Swedish Agency for Cultural Analysis.
