Despite the fact that it is becoming increasingly common for criminals to use smuggled hand grenades for explosions, the Swedish Customs Service has only made two seizures of hand grenades since 2020, reports Sveriges Radios Ekot.

The explosions with hand grenades are increasing and we have not found a single one this year, it does not feel good, says Stefan Granat, deputy head of department at the Swedish Customs Service to the radio.

The latest seizure was made last year, when a woman was stopped in a car on the Öresund Bridge with 16 hand grenades in a pot.

One of the reasons why the seizures are so few is that it is not known how the smuggling is carried out or where to make the controls. The means of transport and how they enter the country are unknown, reports Ekot.

This is one of our biggest challenges, says Stefan Granat.
