Swedish Crime Network Figure Charged With Aggravated Drug Smuggling After Extradition

A 38-year-old Swedish citizen is being charged with aggravated drug smuggling, Swedish Customs says. He has been wanted for five years and is believed to have been hiding in Dubai, among other places.

The man is described as a high-ranking figure in a criminal network and is suspected of having had large quantities of drugs transported from Spain to Sweden.

According to Swedish Customs, the man can be linked to 1.6 tonnes of smuggled drugs thanks to the agency’s access to encrypted chats.

The 38-year-old, who has now been extradited to Sweden, previously lived in Skåne.

“We believe the man played a central role in the crime for which he is now being prosecuted. Criminals should never be able to sit in other countries and systematically commit crimes in, for example, Sweden,” says Erik Friberg of the Customs Criminal Investigation Department in a press release.
