The government has now appointed an inquiry to analyze the need for Swedish conscripts in NATO's collective deterrence and defense across the entire conflict spectrum. This includes peacetime activities such as exercises and, for example, the multinational force currently in Latvia to deter Russia from military attack.
The investigation's analysis shall include the need to be able to use fully trained, war-deployed conscripts, as well as conscripts in training.
If the need cannot be met with the current regulations, the investigator should consider a new type of service.
The investigation is due to be completed on April 26, 2027.
