More and more Swedes are using condoms, a new report from RFSU shows. The biggest increase is among young people.

42 percent of Swedes have used a condom in the past year. This is the highest in the Nordic region and an increase compared with the past five years.

The biggest increase is among teenagers, a group where condom use had previously declined. 70 percent of 16-20-year-olds report using a condom in the past year, compared to 61 percent in 2024.

70 percent of the age group intend to use a condom when having sex with a new partner - an increase of 5 percent. 57 percent find it easy to suggest a condom compared to 47 percent the year before.

The percentage of teenagers who used a condom at their first sexual encounter has increased to 54 percent from 52 percent the year before. Despite this, Swedish teenagers still have the lowest rate in the Nordic region, far behind Finland's 78 percent.
