The aim is to "strengthen the overall ability of total defence to maintain necessary functionality by clearing, repairing and restoring critical infrastructure in the event of heightened alert and, in the event of war," the government writes.
The announcement is welcomed by the industry organisation Byggföretagen.
"The war in Ukraine has clearly demonstrated the importance of construction and repair capacity in order to restore critical infrastructure in a short time. This in turn is crucial for strengthening the resilience of society as a whole," says Kristoffer Tamsons, CEO of the Swedish Construction Association, in a press release.
MCF will report on the assignment in April next year.
