Sales in online bookstores are also increasing after several years of decline. Part of this increase is explained by the government subsidy for the purchase of literature for schools, which in 2026 will amount to 550 million kronor.

However, sales in physical bookstores fell for the first time since 2020, by 4.3 percent.

The Swedish Publishers Association's report also presents statistics for the first half of the year as a whole. Total book sales amounted to SEK 2.5 billion, an increase of 4.8 percent or SEK 115 million compared with 2025.
