Swedish Beach Volleyball Duo Exits World Championship in Brazil

The Swedish up-and-comers Jacob Hölting Nilsson, 20, and Elmer Andersson, 18, advanced from the group stage in the World Championship tournament in Brazil via a meritorious victory against the Cuban pair Noslen Diaz/Jorge Alayo. However, it was all over immediately for the beach volleyball duo in the final.

Americans Miles Partain and Andy Benesh – in the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games last summer – won with 2–0 in sets (21–16, 21–17) in the first elimination round.

It's disappointing. We don't really get paid in our own serve. We don't take advantage of our opportunities, says Hölting Nilsson to SVT.

This is only the second time the duo plays a tournament at this level. The team qualified for the main event.

It's a very good team we're meeting here. We can absolutely be with them and match them, says Jacob Hölting Nilsson.

The Swedish Olympic gold pair Jonatan Hellvig, 23, and David Åhman, 23, were forced to withdraw from the competition in Brasília. This due to Hellvig injuring a thumb.

The next tournament on the beach volleyball world tour is in Ostrava in the Czech Republic, at the turn of May-June.
