The Swedish pair Åhman and Hellvig, who last year took Olympic Games gold in Paris, were eliminated by the Polish pair Losiak/Bryl with 1–2 in sets in the quarterfinal.
Åhman/Hellvig started strongly and won the first set with 21–15. Then the Poles shifted into higher gear and won the second set with 22–20, which took the match to a deciding set.
There, the Polish duo was too strong for the Swedes, who fell with 12–15 and thus did not advance to the semifinal.
Nor did Sweden's other pair, Jacob Hölting-Nilsson and Elmer Andersson. In parallel, the super talents played their quarterfinal against the Dutch pair Boermans/de Groot and fell with 0–2 in sets (18–21, 18–21).
