Swedish Bankruptcies Fall 15% in October to Lowest Level in Five Years

The number of bankruptcies fell by 15 percent in October compared with the same month last year, according to statistics from credit reporting company Syna.

A total of 827 companies went bankrupt during the month. This was the lowest figure for October in five years.

“It is of course very positive that the bankruptcy pressure that has plagued Swedish businesses now seems to have eased. The decline in October is significant and can only be explained by the fact that many companies have the worst years behind them,” says Karl Stjerna, CEO of Syna, in a press release.

Bankruptcies rose slightly in September, but so far this year, the total is down six percent.

At the same time, companies in the restaurant and construction sectors, as well as vehicle dealers, are “more vulnerable” than others, according to Syna.
