Members of the association are now urged to be extra vigilant and check the sender's address and ensure the email was sent by the correct person.
Swedish authors have previously been the target of similar fraud attempts. In 2022, a man was arrested in the United States for trying to obtain scripts from Swedish authors such as David Lagercrantz and Jonas Jonasson. The man was later sentenced to pay the equivalent of just over 800,000 Swedish kronor in fines.
Recently, the British Writers' Union urged its members to be vigilant after a wave of scam emails from fake editors.
