The government is proposing in a bill to the Riksdag that Sweden allocate a battalion to NATO's Forward Presence in Finland (FLF). The battalion will be based in Boden and will also be able to operate in Sweden and Norway.
The Swedish contribution will amount to around 600 soldiers and officers in 2026. If necessary, the number can be increased to a maximum of 1,200.
Other Nordic countries are also contributing to the multinational land force, as are France and the United Kingdom, among others.
The headquarters in Finland consists mainly of staff officers. In peacetime, troops will be present from time to time, for example during exercises.
