91 percent of agricultural land is now owned by individual owners - such as estates, partnerships and private individuals. A new report from the Swedish Board of Agriculture shows that four out of ten private owners in 2024 were over 64 years old.
Of the private owners, approximately 190,000 are now men and approximately 129,000 are women. The average age is 60 years for women and 61 years for men - which is six years older than at the turn of the century.
The number of owners over 64 years of age has increased, ownership in the 55-64 age group is stable but has decreased in the younger age groups.
In addition, the oldest group, over 64 years old, has more than doubled its share of ownership since 2000, to 41 percent of agricultural land.
