Textile consumption has fluctuated in recent years as inflation and interest rates have gone up and down.
In 2025 it was at the same level as in 2022, according to new statistics from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. This does not include private household imports via e-commerce - something that is also considered to have increased.
"The consumption of textiles and clothing today is not sustainable despite an increased second-hand market. We consume more newly produced products and use our clothes and textiles for an increasingly shorter time," says Yvonne Augustsson at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's resource efficiency unit in a press release.
