Toronto's Swedes delivered four points when Toronto crushed Ottawa with 6–2 and thereby got the best possible start on this year's Stanley Cup journey.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson initiated the goal scoring just over seven minutes into the first period after a goal-assisting pass by Calle Järnkrok.
In the middle act, William Nylander made himself known and played first to John Tavares 3–1 before he himself set 4–1 a few minutes later.
The visitors got in a final reduction at the beginning of period three, but never got closer than that – instead, the home team's Morgan Rielly arranged 5–2 before Matthew Knies nailed the final result just over seven minutes before the final signal.
