During the fourth quarter, average monthly savings decreased by around SEK 200 to about SEK 5,700. At the same time, there are large differences between households, with savings amounts ranging from SEK 800 for low-income earners to SEK 13,800 for high-income earners.
"More people say they will increase their savings even as monthly savings decrease. It's a clear tug-of-war between savings and consumption, and something to follow closely in future surveys," says SEB's private economist Américo Fernández in a press release.
The proportion of households that can easily handle an unexpected expense of SEK 30,000 has increased over the past three years.
