The Game Awards is like a mix between an industry gala and a publicity stunt, with celebrities, performances and an awards ceremony.
For Sweden, there could be quite a few awards, not least Josef Fares Hazelight, who has been nominated for "Split fiction", Embark Studios, who can be praised for their "Arc Raiders", and composer Ludvig Forssell, who composed the music for "Death Stranding 2".
In the "best multiplayer" category, four out of five games were fully or partially developed in Sweden.
"We have had a great year of gaming. Several of the big games that have been in development for a long time have now reached their audience, and it is proof of how good games made in the country really are," comments Johanna Nylander at Computerspelsbranschen.
"Capturing both the audience and the critics is difficult and requires expertise and experience. It is a nice and important recognition for Swedish game creation, even though there are more Swedish games that could also have been included in the selection," she continues.
In the top prize "Game of the Year", there is no Swedish-developed game represented. Instead, the role-playing games "Clair Obscure: Expedition 33", "Death Stranding 2: On the Beach", "Donkey Kong Bananza", "Hades II", "Hollow Knight: Silksong" and "Kingdom Come: Deliverance II" are up for the statuette.
The Game Awards will air on the night of December 12th starting at 1:30 a.m. on multiple platforms and Prime Video.
