"In order to realize the Swedish Biathlon Association's future initiatives - such as the plans for a new event and performance center in Östersund and the work to arrange the World Championships in 2031 - long-term partners are required," the Biathlon Association writes on its website ahead of this weekend's World Cup premiere in Östersund.
How much the center will cost is unclear, but the association announces that they have applied for funding from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Development and partners.
The national biathlon team has previously had its base in Östersund.
