In three straight World Championships, Sweden has been eliminated in the quarterfinals against Canada. This year, they will likely avoid Canada and the USA since they won Group B, the unseeded group.
This after beating Japan in the top match in the group with 2–0.
We have talked about it before the World Championship that we should put ourselves in as good a position as possible for the quarterfinals. It was nice that we succeeded, says goalkeeper Emma Söderberg to SVT.
She herself was ice-cold at the end when the goalkeeper mask broke and she quickly went to the bench to borrow Ida Boman's helmet instead of getting her own fixed.
I didn't want to give them time to talk it over, says Söderberg.
Captain Anna Kjellbin is very pleased with how the team handled the Japanese.
We are ready from the start and do what we talked about. And Emma is an incredible security back there, says Kjellbin to SVT.
Sweden concludes the group stage on Tuesday against Norway.
