The Swedish victory was built on a strong first period, in which the Damkronorna were slightly better than Finland in most aspects. Ida Karlsson made it 1-0 after 4:14, and Hilda Svensson extended the lead to 2-0 on the power play after 8:21.
“I think we’re doing a great job. Especially in the first half of this period, I think we’re pressing them really well. They’re icing the puck and not getting it out,” Hilda Svensson told SVT after the first period.
Sara Hjalmarsson and Tilde Grillfors scored Sweden’s other goals, helping the team bounce back after losing 5-1 to Canada on Friday. With the victory over Finland, Sweden has a good chance of finishing second in the group, which is important for the playoffs. Next up is host nation Denmark on Tuesday.
