A new setup can make Swedish men's cross-country skiing lose a spot in the Olympic Games. It will be exciting. And it's a bit... shaking, says sprinter Marcus Grate to Expressen.

In the latest Olympic Games, Sweden has been allowed to have eight female skiers and eight male skiers.

But now Norway and Sweden have been allocated only seven places each on the men's side for the Olympic Games in Italy in February. The reason is that the International Ski and Snowboard Federation wants more competing nations. Ten places are therefore kept open for smaller nations to try to get enough Fis points during the season to qualify for the Olympic Games, writes Expressen.

If the smaller nations fail to qualify, the remaining places are distributed to the other nations, first to Norway and then to Sweden.

The allocation of any remaining places is however not made until January 22.

It's clear that it's a bit messy. You want to know already when the selections start in December what applies, says national team manager Anders Byström to Expressen.
