I do not recognize myself in that the authority would function poorly. Not at all actually, says Sturegård to TV4's News Morning during his first day as acting state epidemiologist.
On the other hand, there is a question about the placement of the state epidemiologist and what role the state epidemiologist should have. It is a discussion issue that I think we should deepen and discuss a bit broader, he continues.
In the interview, Sturegård also says that he takes to himself parts of the criticism.
Sturegård has been appointed after Gissléns controversial departure two weeks ago, when he resigned after, among other things, having criticized the medical competence in the Public Health Agency's management group.
Gissléns criticism, which has been presented in a series of film clips published on social media, has led to a reform work at the authority. From now on, the state epidemiologist will attend all management group meetings, and not just when infectious disease issues are addressed.
