The record deal took place at Fryshuset in Stockholm, during the Card Expo Sweden fair, where thousands of collectors flocked over the weekend.
The record card is an Alakazam Gold Star from 2006, and the fact that the price tag landed at one million did not make buyer Kevin Chan hesitate.
It feels great to have broken a record. It's an exclusive card that exists in very few copies, which means there are plenty of potential buyers.
And demand seems to be enormous. The record deal had barely been closed before Kevin Chan found a new buyer. An English collector bid 1.2 million kronor, and now the card has been sold for the second time in the same week.

Last winter, the world's most expensive Pokémon card was sold - an extremely rare Pikachu Illustrator card went for the equivalent of 147 million kronor in the US. A staggering sum, even though a diamond necklace was included in the purchase.
And Kevin Chan isn't worried about interest cooling off. On the contrary, he has some advice for anyone who collected Pokémon cards as a child: Find them.
I had a friend who found his old cards and sold them for 250,000 kronor.
