Sweden’s men reach European Curling Championship semifinals after 8-7 win over Czech Republic

Sweden’s men’s curling team is through to the European Championship semifinals in Ostrava. Sweden won a thrilling group final against the Czech Republic 8–7 in an extra end.

Team Oskar Eriksson remains undefeated at the European Curling Championships in the Czech Republic and has reached the semifinals, despite having one regular-season match left.

“That was the goal of the competition: to reach the playoffs and fight for the medals,” skipper Eriksson told SVT after the team’s fourth straight win.

Friday’s match against the hosts was a thriller, however. Sweden lost a 7-4 lead before the eighth and final regular end, but then came out on top in the extra end. After the 8-7 victory, Sweden finished ahead of the Czech Republic in its group.

Sweden will face either Scotland or Italy from the other group in Saturday night’s semifinals.

The Swedish women have won all five of their matches, and Team Isabella Wranås qualified for Saturday’s semifinals on Thursday.
