The reigning champion Sweden got a tough start to the men's World Championship in curling. Team Niklas Edin fell 5–9 to China in the premiere in Canadian Moose Jaw.

The blue-yellow team had a 5-3 lead after six rounds, but then most things went wrong for Team Edin. In the eighth round, China equalized with a two-pointer and then managed to steal a point in the subsequent round.

A 5-6 deficit is not impossible to turn around or even out in a tenth round, but Niklas Edin failed with his final draw and China took three new points for a 9-5 victory.

Next, Sweden will face Japan and Austria.
