The Swedish state is worsening the climate crisis so much that it threatens the lives and health of young people, the youth-led organisation that filed a lawsuit against the state in February says.
As early as 2022, Aurora sued the state through a class action lawsuit, but in 2025 the Supreme Court (HD) ruled that the case could not be heard in a Swedish court, partly because individuals were behind the action.
However, the Supreme Court left open the possibility of hearing a case brought by an association. Aurora then took over the case from the young people who had first sued the state to pursue the process.
In July, the Chancellor of Justice (JK) announced that the case could be heard in Stockholm District Court.
