Sweden’s Centre Party open to backing transitional budget in key Riksdag vote

The Centre Party is paving the way for a vote on a transitional budget in a crucial Riksdag vote.

We are prepared to support a transitional budget, says Centre Party economic policy spokesperson Martin Ådahl.

The announcement comes after a meeting of the Finance Committee.

The transitional budget, which applies to 2027, is a neutral budget presented by the caretaker government because no new government has taken office. It largely extends this year's state budget.

It will be presented to the Riksdag on November 12, after which the parties can submit motions, either jointly or individually. There has been speculation that the Tidö parties will submit a joint proposal, which could then go up against the transitional budget in a decisive vote.

If all four Tidö parties agree, the red-green parties - the Social Democrats, the Left Party, the Centre Party and the Green Party - would need to vote for the transitional budget for it to pass.

The red-green parties could then submit an additional amending budget if they manage to agree on a government.

The Social Democrats' economic policy spokesperson, Mikael Damberg, expects such a bill could be introduced at the beginning of next year.

I believe there is pressure on us to bring about changes at the beginning of the new year, says Damberg.
