One of Sweden's most popular book series for children and young people is becoming a film. The animated "Handbook for Superheroes" gets its cinema premiere on Christmas Day.

Elias and Agnes Våhlund's series about how bullied Lisa finds a handbook that teaches superpowers has become a success. The books in the "Handbook for Superheroes" series have sold more than two million copies in Sweden alone.

When the story is now being made into a film directed by Patrik Forsberg ("Space Travel"), the script has been written by Anoo Bhagavan ("Young Wallander"). The film is based on the first four books in the series and among those who lend their voices to the characters are Toussaint "Tusse" Chiza, Malte Gårdinger, Robert Gustafsson, and Gizem Erdogan.

"It's an enormous challenge and responsibility to make a film about such a beloved character and such an intense, emotionally charged adventure", says Patrik Forsberg in a press release.
