The British, skippered by Ian Williams, were too strong. But Oscar Engström and his crew still left China with World Championship medals. The Swedish sailors took silver.

Engström, Rasmus Alnebeck, Emil Wolfgang and Filip Karlsson from the Royal Gothenburg Sailing Society lost to the British in the match-racing final off Shenzhen.

The Swedish boat started the day by winning the semi-final against the USA 3–2.

The British were unbeatable. Ian Williams is by far the most successful match-racing sailor in history.

It was his ninth World Championship gold medal.

"Williams is incredibly experienced and was very strong in the final. However, we are incredibly satisfied and are now going to celebrate," says Rasmus Alnebeck in a press release.

"We have been incredibly focused, have trained hard and put a lot of time into development during the fall, so it feels fantastic that it paid off," he continues.
