The deteriorating security situation around the Baltic Sea means that the Swedish People's Party wants to analyze the conditions for acquiring another submarine. It is both an expensive and time-consuming project, but the party's defense policy spokesman Peter Hultqvist believes it is necessary.
It is an important weapon for intelligence gathering, but it is also very sharp and clear against an enemy, says Hultqvist.
He does not want to go into how many billions it could involve, but the submarine should be included within the financing framework of 300 billion kronor that the parliamentary parties have agreed on for military and civil defense.
Hultqvist urges Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) to invite new defense negotiations as soon as possible, where the issue of a new submarine is a priority for S.
