On Thursday, the leaders of Britain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan announced that they stand ready to assist in opening the Strait of Hormuz.
"We call on Iran to immediately cease its threats, mine-laying, drone and missile attacks, and other methods of blocking the strait," the leaders said in a statement.
On Friday, several additional countries, including Sweden, Denmark and Norway, will join the initiative.
