The state may need to step in with support to increase defense industry production, he says.

According to a recent report from FMV, the number of deliveries within the Swedish defense industry that are not completed on time has increased in recent years. In 2022, 97 percent were on time – but in 2024, only 73 percent were delivered as planned.

The needs that exist now, with a large-scale war being waged in Europe, the defense industry was not dimensioned for before the invasion of Ukraine, says Göran Mårtensson.

To solve the problems, the Defense Materiel Administration proposes that the state provides some form of guarantees for the defense industry to dare to scale up quickly and extensively.
