Over time, more and more Swedish shooting ranges have been closed, according to Minister for Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M).
This does not fit well with the growth we see in total defence and the conditions that the government wants to see for the Swedish sports shooting movement and the hunting corps, he says.
The government wants to create better conditions both for preserving existing shooting ranges and building new ones.
The investigator will be Pia Clerté, herself a sport shooter and commentator on issues related to weapons legislation and sport shooting.
A key part will be to review how regulations can become more effective and predictable. At the same time, safety must remain reassuring and relevant environmental and social interests must be taken into account, she says.
The investigation must be reported no later than August 31 next year.
